This heliostat was started in 1991 while I was doing my tool and die apprenticeship. The process of teaching myself all the required skills propelled me into mech and embedded sw engineering. I really appreciate the tolerance my wife had for my disappearances into the basement. Originally it was controlled with a HC11 microcontroller but migrated to two 9S12 controllers using fuzzy logic for servo control. The base component was built when I had access to industrial machine tools. The upper section was built with my Sherline mill/lathe. I received funding from the Ontario Arts Council for a project which this piece was one component of.
